Why do American girls love the British accent?

Firstly, I am British and have a London accent. So I went to California the other month for a week's break. After entering a club I went to talk to a group of these girls, and jeez, they went crazy over my accent! I told them I was from England and it hyped them up even more! Is this normal? And why?! What is the desire in a British guy? Aha. I'd like answers from American girls as well as those with experience.
